A victory with a gap of two goals or a victory of anything whereby Latics score three goals is required against Morecambe to pip current Group D leaders Fleetwood Town and secure a place in the knockout rounds of the Final Third Development League Cup.
Latics, who are holders of the competition, are currently second in the group on four points with a game in hand over Fleetwood on seven points, meaning goal difference could settle the group. Opponents Morecambe sit third with three points.
In the group stage so far, Latics drew 0-0 away to Fleetwood in September 2014, before winning 4-0 at home to Tranmere Rovers in December.
The two clubs differ heavily in FTDL West position, with Latics top of the league and the Shrimps currently bottom.
Latics head into the game in good form, having won 3-1 away at Wrexham last Wednesday, with Joey Johnson on the score sheet twice in the second half.
