  • Malky Mackay: "Grant Holt is a fighter."
  • Holt faces nine month journey to fitness after knee ligament operation.
Latics striker Grant Holt was back at Christopher Park Training Ground today following successful knee surgery, and Latics manager Malky Mackay has wished him luck as he starts his long road to rehabilitation.

Holt had cruciate ligament reconstruction at a top orthopedic consultant in London this week and Mackay confirmed: “Grant’s operation was successful, that is the good news, and he is now back at the club to begin his rehabilitation.

“It’s going to be a long hard road for him but Richard Collinge and the medical team here at the club will work with him and give him the best possible care. We wish him the best of luck in his recovery, he is a fighter, he will be back.”

Grant Holt sustained the injury whilst on loan at Huddersfield Town last month, and is likely to be side-lined until next Autumn.

Holt himself said:

“I know it’s going to be a tough few months ahead but Richard and his team here have been brilliant with me and I know I’m in the best possible hands in terms of getting back.  Thanks to everyone who has sent good luck messages.”
