New signing Billy Mckay gave his first interview with the club after his move from Inverness Caledonian Thistle, saying he’s relishing the challenge ahead, marking his work rate as a top attribute.

“I’m delighted to be down here,” said the 26-year-old.

“Everything has happened really quickly.  I was in training on Tuesday and the manager pulled me in to tell me there had been an enquiry.

“As soon as I knew about the challenge down here I was straight on the plane to come down, it’s a good prospect for me and I can’t wait to get going.

“I came to Wigan on Wednesday to discuss things and when I met Malky he told me a lot of positive things about the club.

“He explained the direction he wants to take the team in and it was very encouraging, I’m just delighted to be wanted as a part of that.”

Mckay joins Latics having scored 10 goals in the Scottish Premiership so far this season, and says he hopes to bring more than just goals to the team.

“I’ve got to work hard and try my best to score goals.  If I can score goals then I’ll be able to help the team as much as I can.

“Things were going well up at Inverness, we were third in the table and I’d scored 10 goals, so I’ve been enjoying the season so far and I’m looking to bring my form down here.

“My main attribute is my work rate, I'll work hard for my team mates and I make sure I put everything I can into every game.”
