Shaun Maloney talks with Leicester break down after bid is accepted.

Speaking to Latics Player ahead of the Sky Bet Championship clash with Blackburn Rovers, manager Malky Mackay revealed talks between Shaun Maloney and Leicester City have broken down.

Mackay said:

“In the last few days we accepted a bid from Leicester City for Shaun Maloney, but personal talks have broken down between the club and Shaun, so that looks like it’s finished.

“Chicago Fire are another club that have a keen interest in Shaun, but that wouldn’t be until the end of his contract.

“As far as we’re concerned, we’re delighted that we’ve got Shaun as our player.  He’s an active member in the squad until the end of his contract, unless bids come in again that are accepted by the club.”

Mackay continued:

“I expect Shaun to be as professional as ever in light of the news.  I’ve had that from him since I arrived here a few weeks ago, and he’s a player who has always shown respect right throughout his career.

“He’ll train properly as usual and be involved in everything as far as the games are concerned.  That’s what I expect from him and it’s what I expect from every player.

“That will be the case for every player unless both a bid is accepted and the player has agreed to leave, if that’s not the case then it’s business as usual.”
