Wigan Athletic confirm James Perch moves to Rangers.
- James Perch in Queens Park Rangers move.
- Perch moves from Wigan Athletic for undisclosed fee
- Defender made 81 league appearances for Latics.
After rejecting three initial bids from QPR, a fourth bid met the club’s valuation and he was given permission to travel to London, undergo a medical and discuss terms.
Latics manager Gary Caldwell said:
“James is a top professional but unfortunately the financial reality of where we are means that we have to make certain difficult decisions on players for the long-term benefit and stability of the football club – but only if they are deemed right for Wigan Athletic. We feel that we have now received a fee which matches our valuation, we thank James for his efforts during his time here and wish him all the best in his future career.”
Signed from Newcastle United in the summer of 2013, Perch has been a virtual ever-present in his time at the club, twice winning the Players’ Player of the Season award.
He played 95 times in a Latics shirt in all competitions, scoring five goals. His goals were not frequent, but memorable, in the Sky Bet Championship Play-Off semi-final at QPR in 2014, and in the club’s superb FA Cup quarter final victory at Manchester City.
