Latics in first of two Scottish friendlies this Tuesday.

  • Partick Thistle v Wigan Athletic, Tuesday 21 July.
  • 7.30pm kick off at Firhill Stadium.
  • £10.00 admission, with Under 16s free.
Wigan Athletic will face the first of two pre-season friendlies in Scotland this Tuesday evening when they visit Firhill Stadium to take on Scottish Premiership side Partick Thistle.

Kick off against Partick is at 7.30pm, with admission just £10.00 and free for Under 16s.

Latics travel to Scotland with a draw and a victory, following last Tuesday’s 1-1 away to Altrincham and Saturday’s 2-0 win at Southport.

Gary Caldwell says he is pleased with the progress being made in his group so far this pre-season, having travelled to La Manga for fitness purposes, with practice matches against Queen of the South and Hibernian, before more competitive friendlies against Conference National sides Altrincham and Southport.

Saturday’s 2-0 victory at the Merseyrail Community Stadium saw new signing Will Grigg in action for the first time, with Caldwell again handing younger players some useful experience.

Two Southport own goals helped Latics to victory, which you can watch for free thanks to our one-off freeview on Latics PlayerHD.

Partick Thistle’s pre-season has been relatively similar, recording a victory and a draw, after winning 2-0 away to Eastleigh last Tuesday, before a 0-0 draw away at Falkirk on Saturday.

Following Tuesday’s clash, the Jags will host Rotherham United on Saturday 25 July, before they begin their Scottish Premiership season away to Hamilton Academical on August 1.

Partick have competed in European competitions three times; the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup in 1963-64, the UEFA Cup in 1972-73 and the UEFA Intertoto Cup in 1995-96.

In March 1996 Andy Lyons left Latics to join Partick Thistle, having scored 27 goals in 87 appearances during his time at Springfield Park.

Lyons went on to score 13 in 71 for the Firhill club, before a switch to Ayr United in 1998.
