- Craig Morgan set to join Latics at the end of his contract with Rotherham United.
- Morgan agrees two year contract, subject to medical.
The 29-year-old Welsh international centre-half has agreed terms on a two year deal, with the option of a third season, having played over 350 matches in the Football League for Wrexham, MK Dons, Peterborough, Preston North End and Rotherham United.
Morgan turned down other offers, including clubs in the Championship, and Latics manager Gary Caldwell is delighted to have netted his man:
“We knew Craig’s contract was up and he may be available, and this was somebody we were very interested in bringing to the club. We are delighted he has chosen to join Wigan Athletic.
“He has great experience, having played internationally but he also knows the division inside out. He is a quality defender, a real leader on the pitch who has been a captain, with a superb attitude and we are delighted to have him on board. “
Capped 23 times by Wales, Morgan has been a virtual ever-present in the past two seasons for Rotherham and was captain during his time there. He won promotion from Leagues Two and One with the Millers in 2013 and 2014. He has also won double promotion with Peterborough. He joins David Perkins and Richard O’Donnell as the other new arrivals of the summer so far.
