Chow bursting with pride after signing two-year deal with Latics.

  • Another dream day for Chow as he signs new contract.
  • Initial decision heart-breaking for midfielder.
  • “It’s an incredible feeling, especially because this is my club.” – Chow.
After putting pen to paper on a new two-year contract at Wigan Athletic, midfielder Tim Chow spoke of his pride in staying at the club after ‘surreal’ experience during the final months of the season.

“I don’t think many people saw this coming a few months ago,” said the 21-year-old.

“To get to sign a new contract is very special to me and it’s a proud moment for me and my family.

“It’s an incredible feeling for me, it’s been surreal stepping up into the first team and it’s going to be very different coming back and being straight in that environment for pre-season, it’ll be a new challenge for me, but certainly one I’ll be embracing.”

Chow had initially been told he wouldn’t be staying with the club, with his contract due to run out this summer, but with the appointment of Gary Caldwell in April, the Billinge-born midfielder received a second chance.

“I hope what I’ve achieved so far can give some inspiration to everyone.  Once you get told no it doesn’t mean it’s the end of the road, you’ve just got to keep going and getting on with it and the rewards will come.

“The day I was told I would initially be leaving I was absolutely gutted.  I’ve been here since I was 10 and it was the biggest disappointment I’ve ever faced, being told no and feeling like you’ve failed is horrible.

“It was especially hard because I’m a local lad and this is my club, it was heart-breaking, but thankfully Gary came in and gave me the chance I wanted.

“I took that chance and now I’m here signing a new two-year contract which is exactly what I had hoped for.”
