Latics manager Gary Caldwell says fixture list publication is ‘always an exciting day’.

- ‘We will be prepared and ready.’ - Caldwell.
“Your heart always skips a beat when you see the fixtures, it makes it all seem a lot closer,” he said.
“Coventry will be up for it as you would expect from any team on the first day of the season and we’re going to have to get used to the fact that teams are going to target us as one of the teams to beat.
“We will be targeting a good start, like everyone else. I would say that is very important, to perform consistently from the beginning and carry that through. So after the Ricoh, it’s going to be two back-to-back home games against Doncaster and Scunthorpe, both of whom will be coming to the DW to cause an upset.
“The key factor from our point of view will be the way we prepare over the next six weeks or so. The players are back next week for pre-season, and that’s when the hard work begins because we want to hit the ground running come August 8.
“We have to play every team twice, that’s the bottom line, but sometimes the fixtures can be helpful in terms of when you play sides, but that will only really be evident when we know how teams are performing and how kind the fixtures have been.
“From our point of view I’ll just say that it’s our responsibility for us to be ready as a football club, on and off the field. We need to make sure the players are fit and mentally prepared and we will be relying on the supporters to get behind the players and hopefully get off to the start we all want.”
