Wigan Athletic Football Club confirms that three members of the Board of Directors will step down from their positions at the end of the season.

Following the resignation of Chairman Dave Whelan, which was announced yesterday, Vice-Chairman Phillip Williams, John Winstanley and Brian Ashcroft will also be stepping down at the end of the current season.

Following Mr Whelan’s departure from the Board, the directors felt it was the right time to move aside to allow the incoming Chairman to shape the future, but will remain in place for the rest of the season to assist David Sharpe and Jonathan Jackson during this transitional period.

Williams and Winstanley were elected onto the Board of Directors in 1995, with Brian Ashcroft following in 1996 – and all three have served the club loyally since then, as Latics rose through the divisions, remained in the Premier League for eight seasons, and of course won the FA Cup and qualified for the UEFA Europa League.

The club would like to officially place on record its gratitude for their services over the past two decades.
