PREVIEW

The end of season pressure lies on the shoulder of both Wigan Athletic and Port Vale in the Final Third Development League West, with Latics heading into the title clash top of the league by just a single point, but trailing Vale have two games in hand.

Victory would be crucial for Latics in their penultimate league game, but Joe Parkinson's men would still need a slip up from the Valiants in their remaining three games after today's encounter.

Last week saw Port Vale keep up the pressure with their young side edging a 2-1 victory at home to Tranmere Rovers, while Latics powered past Shrewsbury Town 4-0 at Christopher Park.

Latics fielded a strong team against Shrewsbury last week, which saw Lee Nicholls, Leon Barnett, Billy Mckay and Martyn Waghorn all start.  Waghorn and Barnett were on the score sheet, with Mckay providing two assists.  Louis Robles also scored his first goal for the Development Squad, with captain Tim Chow rounding off the scoring late on.

Parkinson's side have lost just once since their last meeting with Port Vale, but they'll be hoping to make a distant memory of that defeat at Vale Park in October 2014, as despite scoring early thanks to Ryan Jennings, Latics fell to a harsh 5-1 defeat against an experienced outfit.
