Fantastic 1-0 victory at Carrow Road earns Malky Mackay’s side LMA accolade.

  • Sir Alex Ferguson amongst those to pick Latics’ performance as the best of the week.
  • Boss ‘proud’ of players as Carrow Road success results in three points and trophy.
  • Mackay will be presented with the award on Gillette Soccer Saturday, on Sky Sports, this weekend.
The League Managers Association’s five-man Performance of the Week panel, comprising of LMA Chairman Howard Wilkinson, Sir Alex Ferguson, Joe Royle, Dave Bassett and Barry Fry, were in agreement that this week the LG Performance of the Week Award should go to Wigan Athletic following their excellent 1 - 0 victory against Norwich City in the Sky Bet Championship on Wednesday 4th March 2015.

The experienced and highly distinguished panel has managed a combined total of over 6,000 competitive matches in professional football and they were impressed with Latics’ performance at Carrow Road as Kim Bo-kyung’s goal brought an abrupt halt to high-flying Norwich’s run of five consecutive Sky Bet Championship wins which had taken the Canaries into the play-off places.

The win also followed another away win at Blackpool last Saturday where Latics won 3-1 thanks to goals from Kim, Harry Maguire and James McClean.

Latics manager Malky Mackay will receive a specially commissioned trophy made by world renowned silversmiths and LMA Partner, Thomas Lyte of London, in a presentation to commemorate the award.

Reflecting on the result against his former club and on winning the award, Mackay said:

“I’m very proud and pleased to receive this award.  The team has gone through a lot of changes in the past few weeks and is now showing clear signs of gelling together.

“This was a game I felt we fully deserved to win against what I consider to be one of the, if not the, strongest squads, in the Championship.  We need to use these last two results as a platform to maintain momentum for a really strong finish to the season when we very much hope to preserve our Championship status.”
