Vacancy in our Human Resource Department.


Wigan Athletic Football Club (‘the club’) are looking to recruit a Human Resources Manager/Head of Safeguarding. 

Based at the DW Stadium and reporting to the Chief Executive, you will be part of the senior management team and will work to support the club in achieving business objectives in both human resources and the safeguarding of children and adults at risk.  

The position will encompass the following roles and responsibilities: 

Human Resources (HR)

The HR Manager will also be responsible for the delivery of an operational HR service to the club and its employees including the organisation and management of all the administrative elements of the HR function in an effective, efficient and lawful manner.

Key areas of responsibility will be:-
  • Employee relations
  • Advising other senior management on employment issues
  • Managing appraisals, disciplinaries and grievances
  • Managing staff recruitment processes
  • Employment contracts and all correspondence between the club and its employees
  • Ensuring that all policies and procedures are complete and up-to-date

Managing a team of safeguarding officers, you will manage relationships with internal and external stakeholders and ensure the highest levels of care and moral responsibility are applied to the safeguarding of children and adults at risk. 

Key areas of responsibility will be:-
  • Promoting awareness of safeguarding best practice throughout the club and ensuring compliance by risk assessment, advice and recommendations for safer working practices.
  • Providing leadership in all areas of safeguarding children Development of policies and procedures.
  • Acting as Lead Disclosure Officer for the club Leadership and support of the club’s safeguarding officers 
The successful candidate will have the following skills and competencies:-
  • At least 3 years experience within a Senior HR Advisor/HR Manager role
  • Fully CIPD qualified
  • Strong generalist with broad HR experience
  • The ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
  • Strong organisational skills, with the ability to plan and prioritise workloads, working to deadlines and performance standards.
  • Able to work on your own initiative.
  • Creative, adaptable and approachable
