Community Trust providing family fun events in Wigan this Saturday 23rd May 2015.

Wigan Athletic Community Trust will be joining in with a free family fun day focusing on the importance of heart health in Wigan town centre this weekend.

The Heart of Wigan Day on Saturday 23rd May will run between 10.00am and 3.00pm across the town centre, with different zones teaching people about how to look after their own heart as well as the skills to help save lives.

Wigan Athletic Community Trust will be running events throughout the day in Believe Square, including a mini football pitch to play on, your chance to score past the inflatable goals, Latics prizes and giveaways.

Plus, mascots Phoenix and Blue will be there all day to join in with the fun and games.

Heart of Wigan is helping to tackle cardiovascular related health problems in the Wigan borough. In 2013/14 there were 13,943 people with coronary heart disease who were registered with GPs in the town. That means one in 23 people have the condition.

Councillor Damian Edwardson, who is leading the Heart of Wigan campaign, said: “We want to try and encourage people to live a healthy life and this free fun day is a great way for people to find out how to do that.

“We will have zones teaching CPR, healthy eating and representatives from Greenheart and green spaces to talk about getting outside and active. There will also be plenty of fun with Wigan Athletic Community Trust who will be running their football zone.

“Heart of Wigan Day is about getting people to enjoy their sport through fun activities and keeping healthy while also equipping people with the tools to save lives through CPR.”
