- Barnsley JPT Area Semi Final to be played on Saturday 5 December.
- Prices again are £5.00 adults and £1.00 for Under 18s.
- "We want to reward our fans’ loyalty and need their backing." - David Sharpe.
With both clubs no longer being involved in the Emirates FA Cup, an agreement was reached with the Football League to play on the date scheduled for second round matches.
Manager Gary Caldwell said:
“From a football point of view, this makes complete sense. Rather than a free weekend then two matches in a week, we can prepare as we would do for a normal Saturday fixture. We want to do well in this competition and this now gives us the best opportunity to prepare and recover, without affecting the League.”
Latics Chairman David Sharpe said the new date will make the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy fixture more accessible to supporters.
“We need the fans to back us” he said, “should we get through this round, there is just the Northern Final over two legs to get through before a possible trip to Wembley.
“In football you take nothing for granted but we need to give ourselves the best possible chance of progressing in this competition, and hopefully the fans will come out in their numbers to back us again.
“We were frustrated to go out of the FA Cup but it has now given us a unique opportunity to play this match on a weekend rather than in midweek, making it much more accessible for supporters.
“Last season was a big disappointment and this match is an opportunity to extend our terrific home form this season and to reward our fans’ loyalty with incredibly low prices. This is a competition we are taking very seriously.
“We didn’t expect to be in this competition at the beginning of last season, but now that we are in it, we are doing all we can to win it.”

Latics reached the Northern Semi-Final following two exciting contests with Crewe Alexandra and Blackpool.
A 3-2 victory at the Alexandra Stadium thanks to two goals from Jordy Hiwula, and arguably the goal of the competition from Yanic Wildschut in the second round.
The quarter-final brought about a 4-0 victory at the DW Stadium, with Hiwula again on target twice, alongside Sean Murray and Wildschut.
