Midfielder David Perkins signs until 2017 after club exercise option of a second season.

  • David Perkins signs one year extension.
  • Perkins has played every minute in the league.
  • “He’s been excellent this season” – Gary Caldwell.
Wigan Athletic are delighted to announce that a one-year extension option on David Perkins' contract has been exercised early, which will keep the ever-present midfielder at the club until the summer of 2017.

The 33-year-old was Gary Caldwell’s first signing of the summer when he arrived as a free agent in late June and he has played every minute of every match in Sky Bet League One.

He signed an initial one season deal at the DW Stadium, with an option for a second season, and such has been the impact he has made at the club that Latics have decided to guarantee his presence for another season.

Gary Caldwell said:

“We knew what we were getting with Perks, so it’s no surprise really that he has done so well. But it’s a measure of him as a professional and how well he looks after himself and how hard he trains that he has been able to perform so well and as a club we should be rewarding that kind of commitment.

“Everyone can see what he gives us on the pitch, he’s the sort of player that every team needs and typical of the man, there are no airs and graces, he just gets on with his job day in day out and gives us great consistency.

“We’re delighted he’ll be here for another season because his experience and energy has been an invaluable asset to the team.”
