Disability Football programme volunteer, Frank Melling, joins Manchester County FA council.

Frank Melling, a volunteer with Wigan Athletic Community Trust’s disability football programmes, has been named as one of the newest members of Manchester County FA’s Council.

A champion of the disabled and their rights within the football community, Frank has volunteered with the Trust for several years, helping to coach and referee on disability football programmes, as well as being Chairman of the Greater Manchester Ability Counts Football League for the past eight years.

His work on improving the Ability Counts League over the last 18 months was noted at the FA Respect Awards, where the League won a ‘commended’ award.

Frank was also a runner up in the Volunteer of the Year category at last week’s Believe Awards.

As well as all of his work around disability football, Frank volunteers for the Club’s Academy, helping to transport the Academy players to training sessions and matches.

Tom Flower, Head of Community, said: “Frank is a key volunteer on our disability football programme and we’re delighted that his work has been recognised several times over the last few months.

“For him to have been elected onto Manchester County FA’s Council is a real achievement and I’m sure he will continue working hard for the rights of disabled footballers following his appointment.”
