Latics are set for their second FTDL West game of the season this Tuesday, hoping to build on last week's league cup victory away to Wrexham, which saw them come from behind to win 4-3.
Having drawn earlier in the season in their opening league game against 2014-15 champions Port Vale, Latics will be hoping to climb the league table against a Shrewsbury Town side who have started the season unbeaten, winning away at Wrexham and drawing with Walsall.
Victory last week in the FTDL Cup gave Latics a chance of progression from the group stage, with Louis Robles, Ryan Jennings, Jordan Flores and Danny O'Brien all on the score sheet. Joint group leaders Port Vale and Stoke City drew 1-1, leaving Latics a point behind with one game remaining, away to the Potters.
It was a case of honours even in 2014-15 between Latics and Shrewsbury, with the Shropshire outfit beating a young Latics side 4-0 at Shrewsbury Sports Village in January, before Peter Atherton's side returned the favour two months later, winning 4-0 at Christopher Park.
