2 October 2015

Latics sign Scotland U21 defender from Manchester United on two months loan.

  • Manchester United defender signs for Latics on two month loan.
  • 20-year-old  full back joins Latics.
  • “We needed to fill this gap in the squad.” - Caldwell.
Wigan Athletic can confirm that Scotland U21 defender Donald Love has joined Latics on a two month loan from Manchester United.

The 20-year-old will be available for Saturday’s visit of Walsall and manager Gary Caldwell is glad to have drafted him in:

“Jonjoe’s departure and the long-term injury to Kevin McNaughton has left a gap in the squad for a specialist right-sided defender,” said Caldwell, “and in that respect Donald fits the bill.”

“He’s a young player still learning but we have had him watched and we believe he has immense potential. He’s quick, strong and can play in several different positions defensively. Let’s hope he can start realising some of that potential here.”

Rochdale-born Love has represented Scotland at U21, U19 and U17 level and has been at United since the age of seven.

He signed professional terms in 2013 but has yet to feature in a first team squad.
