Wigan Athletic Community Trust and Kick It Out celebrate Black History Month with football tournament.

Wigan Athletic Community Trust and Kick It Out joined forces to celebrate Black History Month, with teams from the Latics Kicks programme taking part in a football tournament and workshop at Wigan Youth Zone last week.

Black History Month is an international, annual event that celebrates, recognises and values the inspirational individuals and events from within the black community, who contribute to and help our society today.

Fifty players took part in the tournament, before taking part in a workshop about the history and impact of black footballers who have played for Wigan Athletic.

Rishi Jain, Kick It Out, said: “To be involved in Wigan Athletic Community Trust’s celebration of Black History Month was fantastic.

“The young people involved from different areas of the local community were great to work with and we were able to help them understand more about the history of Kick It Out and the impact of the organisation on football as a whole.

“Wigan Athletic FC and Wigan Athletic Community Trust are strong supporters of Kick It Out and have shown their continuing commitment to promote equality and inclusion throughout all levels of the game.”

The winners of the tournament, from Hag Fold, will now represent the Latics Kicks programme at the launch of the second year of the North West Kicks League at Manchester City’s new Etihad Campus on Friday 30th October.
