Hag Fold/Atherton Kicks team win first fixture of new Latics Kicks league.

Wigan Athletic Community Trust’s new Latics Kicks league kicked off last week, with the first fixture taking place between Skelmersdale and a mixed Atherton and Hag Fold team.

Played under the floodlights at Atherton Community School, the mixed Atherton and Hag Fold side won the opening fixture 7-5, heading straight to the top of the league.

Community Trust Schools and Cohesion Coach – and coach of the Atherton and Hag Fold team – Jon Green, said: “It was great to see the launch of the new league last week – both teams played really well and I was delighted when the team I was coaching edged the win.

“The new league will provide a great opportunity for more of the kids who come to Latics Kicks sessions to play more football and competitive games.”

Latics Kicks is a football and sports programme that provides coaching and playing opportunities to hundreds of 12-19 year olds around Wigan every week and the new league will see teams from nine Latics Kicks locations – Atherton, Hag Fold, Ashton-in-Makerfield, Leigh, Westleigh, Hindley, Pemberton, Standish, Skelmersdale – play throughout the year.
