Step into our archives for this week's 'Previous Meeting'.

  • A closer look at a previous meeting with this weekend's opponents.
  • Video from Latics 3 Colchester United 1 in September 2000.
  • Simon Haworth scores first ever hat-trick at the then named JJB Stadium.

In the build-up to Saturday's Sky Bet League One fixture with Colchester United at the DW Stadium, we take a step back into our video archives to pull out some classic footage from our second season at the new stadium, with forward Simon Haworth making history to become the first player ever to score a hat-trick at the then named JJB.

Rounded off inside 50 minutes with an acrobatic overhead kick, Haworth's hat-trick was assisted completely by Andy Liddell and the 3-1 win sent Latics into sixth place in Division Two, the same position they would finish come the end of the 2000/01 season.

Watch the goals for yourself below and see what you think of Latics' hat-trick hero!

You can learn much more about our previous meetings with Colchester United in this weekend's match day programme with the BBC's Political Correspondent and BBC Radio Manchester's Wigan Athletic reporter, Paul Rowley.

Inside this weekend's edition Ash Houghton looks at programme covers from meetings gone-by, and Latics Observatory takes you back to our 1982 meeting with the U's, as Latics won 3-2 at Springfield Park.

You can also learn all about the 1986-87 in the 'Football League Years' as Latics made it to the quarter finals of the FA Cup.
