Community Trust coaches studying at University of South Wales named Club of the Year.

Wigan Athletic Community Trust coaches who are studying Community Football Coaching and Development at the University of South Wales have won Club of the Year for their outstanding work throughout 2014-15.

The five coaches have spent the last twelve months studying year one of their degree, alongside coaches from 27 other Football League clubs, whilst also working and volunteering as sports coaches for the Trust.

One of the highlights of the students’ year was organising, overseeing and running the West Wigan year 5 schoolgirls football tournament, as part of the Wigan School Games calendar.

Adam Sherratt, Education Officer for the Trust, said: “It’s a real credit to the hard work of the students that they’ve been selected as the University’s Club of the Year for 2014-15.

“The boys have put lots of effort and hours in to doing well in their first year, as well as continuing to work on the Community Trust’s football and sport sessions for the youngsters of Wigan.”

Nine more Wigan Athletic Community Trust coaches are due to begin studying the course this year, which is run in conjunction with the Football League Trust.

Adam added, “I’m extremely proud of the students and what they have achieved this past year – with even more completing the course this year I hope we can continue to do just as well!”
