It's the second meeting in the space of six days for Latics and Port Vale's Development Squads, with the Valiants visiting Christopher Park for the opening game in Group C of the Final Third Development League Cup.

Latics opened their FTDL West campaign last Wednesday with a 2-2 draw away to Vale, being pegged back after goals from Danny O'Brien and Louis Robles had given their side a two goal lead at half time.

Early second half goals from Colin Daniel and JJ Hopper earned the hosts a point, despite a late flurry from Latics which saw O'Brien denied from a corner kick by the fists of Sam Johnson.

The draw has Latics in fifth out of eight teams in the FTDL West after one game, with Port Vale joint leaders on four points alongside Bradford City and Shrewsbury Town.

Fellow Group C sides Stoke City and Wrexham will be wary of Latics' history in the recently introduced FTDL Cup, with Latics winning the competition in it's inaugural year in 2013-14, and reaching the semi-final last season, before being eliminated in the semi-final by Port Vale themselves.

Latics' road to last year's semi-final saw them draw with Fleetwood Town, before victories against Tranmere Rovers and Morecambe saw them progress from the group stage.

Vale went on to narrowly lose in the final 4-2 on penalties after a 1-1 draw in regulation time against Middlesbrough.
