  • Fleetwood Town match will be dedicated to Juan Carlos Garcia.
  • Supporters invited to send their best wishes to Juan Carlos.
  • Honduran defender continuing his treatment for Leukaemia.
Latics’ next Sky Bet League One match at the DW Stadium, this Saturday 19 September, is to be dedicated to Honduras international defender Juan Carlos Garcia, who is still continuing his treatment for Leukaemia in the North West – and Latics fans are being asked to send in their messages of good will.

A selection will be published on the official club website, the matchday programme, and on the LED boards at the DW Stadium on the day, with fans being asked to salute Juan Carlos in the 23rd minute of the game, to reflect his squad number 23.

Please send your messages in to our Twitter account @LaticsOfficial, on Facebook at, via Instagram to our account 'laticsofficial' or directly onto our social media hub Latics Wall at

The players will also be warm up in Leukaemia Care T-Shirts, while there will be a bucket collection inside and outside the stadium on the day.

Members of the FuerzaJCGarcia group of Latics fans who organised a legend charity match in July will also be presenting a cheque to Leukaemia Care on the DW Stadium pitch at half-time.

Latics manager Gary Caldwell says:

“Juan Carlos is still a member of our team and we feel it’s a fitting gesture for us as a club, players, staff and supporters to send out a message of support to him.

“He is being treated for a very serious, potentially life-threatening condition, he is doing well but is still receiving daily care.

“He is thousands of miles away from home and we have to remember the human being in all this. if we can help him a little bit by reminding him that everyone connected with Wigan Athletic sends their best wishes, then hopefully that will help give him a boost.”

Juan Carlos Garcia himself said:

“Thank you to all the Latics fans. It is very moving for me to know the fans are doing this for me. I hope to see you soon.”
