GARY ON IMPACT ON CHESTERFIELD COMEBACK

“I didn’t expect us to kick-start our away form in that style last week, but it was a great performance, a great comeback and a great day for the fans that were there to witness it.

“It’s given the boys a lot of belief, they’ve been training all week with a really positive approach.  People have been training with a spring in their steps and we need to use that and continue that to push forward.

“The players deserve a lot of credit for their strength of mind.  To lose your first two games 2-0, then to come back from 2-0 down in your third game but comeback shows how much spirit this group has.

“The players were relentless in their pursuit of the win, once the first went in we immediately pushed for a second and so on, which shows myself and our supporters just how much this group wants to win.

GARY ON INTERNATIONALS RETURNS AND SELECTION

“Will (Grigg) and Jonjoe (Kenny) returning from international duties gives us a selection headache, but a good one because for the first time in training we’ve been able to have a really strong squad.

“There will be players who will be disappointed not to play this week, but they have to be ready to bring something to the team.

“On Saturday our substitutes had a massive impact on the game, and that just goes to show what can happen if everybody is ready, whether they’re starting or on the bench.”

GARY ON GRANT HOLT’S RECOVERY

“Grant got some more game time yesterday for the Development Squad, he played 55 minutes and he’s certainly getting there.

“We have to be careful with him because it’s been a serious, long term injury and we have to keep bringing him along slowly.

“Grant can bring so much to this team once he’s back to his full fitness.  He can provide goals at this level, I’ve no doubt about that.”

GARY ON LEE NICHOLLS’ LOAN TO BRISTOL ROVERS

“I spoke to Lee early on in pre-season and I told him the number one spot was there to be fought for.  He was excellent in pre-season, worked really hard and push Rich (O’Donnell) really close.

“I also said I would look after him if I could in terms of getting him games.

“He’s been unfortunate that his career has been stop-start, it’s not helping him, so for his development I felt it was important for him to get games.

“He’s going to Bristol Rovers to hopefully get games and do well and come back a better goalkeeper, ready to push Rich again.”
