  • “This is the sort of challenge I have been looking for.” – Haris Vuckic.
Following the completion of his transfer deadline day loan switch from Newcastle United to Wigan Athletic, Slovenian forward Haris Vuckic dropped in at the DW Stadium to speak to Latics PlayerHD about what he says is an exciting move in his career.

“I’m very happy to be here and I’m looking forward to the challenge.  I came here to play football and to show myself.

“At Newcastle I haven’t had the chance to play in the first team this season, so I discussed with the manager and with the club what my options would be.

“We agreed that the best thing would be to come to an ambitious club like Wigan Athletic who want to get promoted to the Championship.

“That’s the sort of challenge I have been looking to be part of and I’m excited for the season ahead.”

Welcomed into training by manager Gary Caldwell yesterday, Vuckic said the environment at Christopher Park has been a friendly one.

“Gary has been very welcoming; he told me as long as I train well I will get my chance in the team.

“Naturally that is my plan to train hard and give my maximum.

“I played with Don Cowie, Kevin McNaughton and Craig Morgan, so it was nice to see some familiar faces when I walked through the doors at the training ground.

“It will be good to be training and playing with them again because they’re all hard working guys.  The rest of the team have been very friendly too.”

The 23-year-old scored eight goals in 15 appearances for Rangers in the Scottish Championship last season, a spell he says he thoroughly enjoyed, and one he’s hoping to replicate during his time with Latics.

“I really enjoyed my time at Rangers because I played a good amount of games.  I was really happy to be playing every week, and I scored goals and helped the team, that’s very much something I’m hoping to do here at Wigan.  I want to score goals and help the team win games.

“I’m an attack-minded play.  I like to score goals and I like to assist, I’m always looking forward and I love to get on the ball and push the team up the pitch.

“I like to play football on the ground and attack, that’s exactly what the manager wants us to do so it suits me really well.

“I want to show him that I can play the way he wants and when I get the chance to I will give my maxiumum.”
