The local clash will be Latics' first schedule cup or league fixture of the season, having played a series of friendlies in recent weeks against the likes of Shrewsbury Town, Burnley, Morecambe and Preston North End.

Additions into the Development Squad this season include: Owen Evans, Adam Anson, Liam Langford, Adrian Purzycki, Sam Cosgrove, Louis Robles, Reece McNally and Lloyd Bannister who have all stepped up from the Under 18s.

Winger Daniel O'Brien also joined up with the team, having signed from Aston Villa in the summer.

Bolton's preparations have seen them unbeaten so far this season, drawing three and winning two, including lifting the Manchester FA Senior Cup following a 1-0 victory over Manchester City.

PREVIOUS MEETINGS

The two teams met in the competition last season, with Latics triumphant thanks to Wigan-born Jordan Flores' solitary strike at Robin Park.

Later in the season Latics were knocked out of the Under 21 Premier League Cup after a penalty shootout defeat to the Trotters at the Lancashire FA Headquarters, following on from a thrilling 4-4 draw over 120 minutes.
