- Caldwell: “Further Football League experience will help Lee immensely."
- 22-year-old set for sixth loan spell in the Football League.
Latics goalkeeper Lee Nicholls has signed for Sky Bet League Two club Bristol Rovers on a 93-day loan deal and the Huyton-born stopper will go straight into their squad for Saturday’s fixture with Accrington Stanley.
The Gas are currently 10th in League Two after winning promotion back to the Football League at the first attempt last season, and Darrell Clarke’s side have won three and lost three of their opening six games.
On the move for Nicholls, Latics manager Gary Caldwell said:
“Lee is still a big part of our plans here, so much so that he played an equal share of the pre-season games with Richard O’Donnell.
“He’s still a very good young goalkeeper and we feel at this time it is essential for him to be playing games to continue his development and, with Jussi Jaaskelainen on board, we have the opportunity to send Lee to Bristol Rovers where hopefully he will do just that.
“Lee progressed immensely during his time at Northampton Town two years ago and we hope to see the same benefits from this move for him.”
