Barrigan, Sang and Lang on target in 3-0 home win.

  • Latics record fourth straight win, 3-0 at home to Port Vale.
  • Barrigan, Sang and Lang all on target for second week running.
  • Three Youth Alliance clean sheets in a row for Will Ryder's side.

Barrigan 2
Sang 16
Lang 76

Latics continued their fine start to the Football League Youth Alliance with a comfortable 3-0 victory against Port Vale this Saturday lunch time, as James Barrigan, Chris Sang and Callum Lang all hit the target for the second weekend running, following on from a 3-1 Youth Alliance Cup win against Tranmere Rovers.

Barrigan's opener means he's scored in every one of Latics' five games so far this campaign, with Sang scoring his fourth and Lang his third.

Latics have been dominant in their last four matches, turning round a losing start to the campaign at Blackpool, with victories over Wrexham, Bury, Tranmere (cup) and now the Valiants.

Barrigan got his side off to a flying start in just the second minute, finishing off a fine midfield move with a confident strike across the Port Vale goalkeeper.

Chris Merrie won possession in midfield, linking up with Luke Burgess, before Josh Gregory's poked pass through the back four found Barrigan down the right side of the box for the finish.

Latics' lead was doubled inside the 16th minute, when another flowing move was finished off with an emphatic finish from Sang.

The passage of play started out at right back with Arnie Baxendale playing it into Sang's feet, with his back to goal he dropped the ball off into midfield for Burgess, allowing him to switch the play over to left full back Alex Lingard.

Darting up the touchline, Lingard cut inside of the Port Vale full back, before finding Merrie on the overlap, his low cross found Sang at close range for a powerful strike.

Latics continued to pass the ball well throughout, but it took until the 76th minute for them to add a third and put the game beyond any doubt.

Lang was the beneficiary from more fine build up play this time, chipping the goalkeeper to make it 3-0.

Substitute Luke Burke combined with Merrie in midfield, before Sang received the ball on the edge of the area and fed it inside for his strike partner Lang.  Under pressure from a covering defender and the out-rushing goalkeeper, Lang kept his nerve to lift the ball over the keeper and into the net.

Latics: Absalom, Baxendale (Burke 56), Lingard, Gregory, Beaumont, Stubbs, Burgess (Rimmer 75), Lang, Sang, Barrigan (Randell 65), Merrie
