Boss reflects on defeat at Doncaster and looks ahead to Tuesday’s massive game at Burton Albion.

  • “Too many players had a bad day at Doncaster,” says Caldwell.
  • Gary pleased to get back into match programme quickly with Tuesday’s visit to Burton.
  • Perkins suspension a blow, but an opportunity for others to stake their claim.
Caldwell on Doncaster defeat…

I don’t think there were any positives really; days like that happen in football and nobody knows why, you can’t really put your finger on it.

We just had too many players who had a bad day and the main thing now is that we recover from that, it is a set-back, but we’re still in a fantastic position and we have to look at the remaining four games and go in and do our job to finish the season off.

I think the defeat probably does help us to regain a little bit of focus; I think when you go on a run like we did, you forget what it feels like to lose and that is a great thing but then when it happens it hurts and it does give you that extra motivation to not let it happen again and that is what we will look to do on Tuesday night.

Caldwell on Burton fixture…

I think the fact the game comes so quickly is good for us; if we had to wait another week until Saturday then it would have been a long week.

We have to dust ourselves down, refocus and look forward to a massive game on Tuesday night.

Caldwell on Perkins suspension…

He is a miss for us of course because he has been fantastic for us all season; he gives us great energy in midfield.

It is an opportunity, though, for other players to come in and fill that spot and we have a squad that is capable of doing that.

Caldwell on captain Craig Morgan, who was named in the Football Manager Football League Team of the Year…

He is obviously in our thoughts; he is coming back from an injury that we have to be careful with and that is why on Saturday he was on the bench.

I said yesterday to the whole group that everyone is in my thoughts in terms of starting the game so we will look in training today and make a decision tomorrow.

It is impressive; I thought more of the players should have been in contention but it is great for Morgs.

We are a team, though, we have a great togetherness, and we win together. The main prize is still available and that is the one we want to try and win.

Caldwell on travelling support…

The fans have travelled in heavy numbers again; you feel like you have let them down but they’ll be there again on Tuesday and they will see a team that is hungry to put Saturday behind them.
