LATICS GIRLS BEAT BOLTON IN GIRLS FOOTBALL WEEK FINAL

27 April 2016

Wigan Athletic win FA Girls Football Week competition.

Girls that join in with Wigan Athletic Community Trust’s Girls Football sessions at Rose Bridge Academy beat Bolton Wanderers 4-2 in the final of a tournament organised by Preston North End, in celebration of the FA Girls Football Week.

Football Club’s from around the North West sent teams to Preston to compete in the tournament, where Latics’ team clocked wins against Preston North End, Blackpool and Fleetwood Town on their way to the final.

Steph Greensill, Girls Football Coach for Wigan Athletic Community Trust, said: “It was a great achievement for the girls to win the tournament, obviously the local rivalry added even more to that sense of competition for the final!

“The FA’s Girls Football Week is a great way to celebrate the opportunities that are available for girls to play football and hopefully through our team winning today and tournaments like this taking place, it will make more girls aware of the sessions that they can join in with.”

Wigan Athletic Community Trust’s Girls Football sessions are funded by the FA and Premier League.
