- Gary Caldwell: “Great opportunity for Lee”
Wigan Athletic can confirm that goalkeeper Lee Nicholls has joined Sky Bet League One side Milton Keynes Dons for an undisclosed fee.
Nicholls, who hails from Huyton, has progressed through the club’s ranks to make 12 first team appearances, most notably when he impressed on his league debut as a late call up for the injured Scott Carson and Ali Al Habsi and went on to keep a clean sheet in a goalless draw at Charlton Athletic.
Discussing Lee’s move to Stadium:MK, Latics manager Gary Caldwell said:
“Lee has been with the club for a long time so naturally it was a difficult decision to allow him to leave.
“However, Lee requires regular game time at this stage of his career and that’s something we couldn’t guarantee.
“To move to a club like MK Dons and to challenge for promotion from League One is a great opportunity for Lee and we wish him all the best in the future.”
