  • Max Power: “A proud moment for me”
Wigan Athletic midfielder Max Power has today signed a new contract with the club that will see him remain at the DW Stadium until the summer of 2019.

The 23-year-old, who signed for Latics from Tranmere Rovers last summer, impressed in his debut campaign at the DW, scoring six goals – a number of which were Goal of the Season contenders – as Gary Caldwell’s side won the Sky Bet League One title.

And, after discussions with Chairman David Sharpe, chief executive Jonathan Jackson and his manager Caldwell, Power has agreed to extend his stay with the club by a further year.

Reflecting on the news that Power has committed his long-term future to the club, Caldwell said:

“Max is a superb young player and his development during his time with us has been excellent.

“To secure his long-term future is great for the football club and a real statement of intent in terms of keeping our best players here at the DW Stadium.

“I have no doubt our supporters will be delighted with the news, Max has rightly become a firm fans’ favourite and I am sure he will go from strength to strength this season.”

Power himself discussed the contract with LaticsPlayer HD, and added:

“To sign a new deal with Wigan Athletic and to commit my future to the club is something I have wanted to do over the summer so I am delighted to get it done.

“I love it here; I’ve struck up a great relationship with the staff and we had a successful season last year so to sign a new deal as we head into the Championship is a proud moment for me.”
