Latics forward Ryan Colclough was ecstatic to get off the mark for the club in Saturday’s 3-0 win over Bury at the DW Stadium.
The former Crewe Alexandra man got the second of the afternoon as Latics extended their Sky Bet League One unbeaten run to 12 games with a fine performance.
And the youngster, who curled home from 25 yards after nine minutes, told LaticsPlayer HD it was a great feeling to get off the mark.
“It was a great feeling,” Colclough said. “It is something I have wanted to do from the start and hopefully I’ll continue to do it now and get a lot more for the club.
“From the start of the game, the gaffer told me to get at the full back and I have cut inside, smashed it with my left foot and it went in at the far post. That is something we practiced before the game in the warm up and it has obviously paid off.
“I’d like to think I have done well – hopefully I can continue to do better and keep improving as the weeks go on.”
Colclough says a good start was imperative to getting a result against the Shakers and he was pleased with how clinical the side were in an impressive opening 21 minutes.
“The main thing we stressed in the dressing room was to go out and start at a high tempo and try and grab the game early,” he explained. “That’s something we do most games but against Bury I felt we took our chances a lot better.”
And the Burslem-born forward hopes Latics build on their momentum and take all three points from a difficult away assignment at Millwall on Tuesday night.
“It’s a massive game going down to Millwall,” he added. “But I think on our day we are as good as anybody and I think we can go there and get a result.”
