  • 23-year-old on season-long loan from Everton.
  • “He’s one we’ve been watching for a long time” – Gary Caldwell.
Wigan Athletic can confirm that Everton striker Conor McAleny has signed for the club on loan until the end of the season.

The 23-year-old becomes the seventh signing of a busy transfer window for Wigan Athletic, joining Yanic Wildschut, Sam Morsy, Ryan Colclough, Reece Wabara, Danny Whitehead and Dan Lavercombe as the new arrivals this January.

Latics manager Gary Caldwell is pleased with the latest arrival:

“Conor is someone we were looking at last summer and have been keeping a close eye. He’s a young player hungry to prove himself and we are delighted he will be able to do that with us for the rest of the season.”

Knowsley-born McAleny played eight times in the Championship for Charlton Athletic this season and in previous seasons has also spent time on loan at Cardiff City, Brentford and Scunthorpe United. He has made two appearances for Everton.

McAleny follows Jonjoe Kenny and Francisco Junior as players loaned from Everton this season.
