Two new football sessions for ex-servicemen with Community Trust.
Wigan Athletic Community Trust’s Football 4 Forces programme is growing, extending to a new area – Leigh – and introducing a brand new Walking Football session at Wigan Youth Zone, providing more opportunities for ex-servicemen, reserves, cadets and those still serving in the armed forces to play football, stay active and meet new people.
As well as taking part in weekly football sessions, since the programme started in Wigan last year players have represented Wigan Athletic in matches against teams from other football clubs, with more opportunities to do so scheduled for 2016.
Now, a new location has been added to the football programme – Leigh Sports Village – where players will have the opportunity to train and play together, go and watch Wigan Athletic home games and even earn football and sports qualifications.
Plus, new and free Walking Football sessions are being introduced to the programme at Wigan Youth Zone from Wednesday 24th February, with chances to play football and represent Wigan Athletic in national walking football competitions.
The new sessions, as well as the original Football 4 Forces session, will take place at the following times and locations:
- NEW! Football 4 Forces – Leigh Sports Village, Sale Way, Leigh, WN7 4JY – Wednesday 6.00pm – 7.00pm
- Football 4 Forces – Robin Park Arena, Loire Drive, Wigan, WN5 0UH – Thursday 5.30pm – 7.30pm
- NEW! Walking Football 4 Forces – Wigan Youth Zone, Parsons Walk, Wigan, WN1 1RU – Wednesday 1.00pm – 3.00pm
Football 4 Forces sessions are for ex-servicemen, reserves, cadets and those still serving in the armed forces, aged 16-65, and are provided thanks to funding from the Ministry of Defence Covenant Fund.
Football 4 Forces is supported by Wigan Council and Wigan Borough Clinical Commissioning Group.
