Kids Cup winners Mab’s Cross visit Latics training ground and stadium.
The winners of Wigan Athletic’s heats of the Football League Kids Cup – Mab’s Cross Primary School, Wigan – received the full Latics experience earlier this week, as they toured Christopher Park Training Ground and the DW Stadium, before having a training session at Wigan Youth Zone with Wigan Athletic Community Trust coaches.
Mab’s Cross won the chance to represent Wigan Athletic in the Kids Cup last month, after scoring a Golden Goal in the final of the competition in front of Latics Chairman David Sharpe and manager Gary Caldwell.
On Tuesday 2nd February, the team visited Christopher Park, taking a look behind the scenes at the training ground and meeting the Wigan Athletic players, before heading over to the DW Stadium where Chief Executive Jonathan Jackson presented them with a new Latics kit to wear in the next round of the competition.
Jonathan said: “I’ve heard all about how well the Mab’s Cross team did in the first round of the competition from the Chairman and manager and we’re all delighted that such a strong team will be representing Wigan Athletic in the next round.
“We wanted to make sure the team look the part in the next round so we’ve presented them with a full set of Wigan Athletic kits that they can wear with pride.”
The team also received a training session with Community Trust coaches at Wigan Youth Zone ahead of the Northern round of the competition next month.
The Kids Cup is organised by the Football League for Primary School-aged students to represent their local football clubs and play football in a competitive environment.
