LOAN REPORT: LAVERCOMBE CLAIMS BACK-TO-BACK CLEAN SHEETS

24 February 2016

Torquay win 2-0 to boost survival hopes.

  • Lavercombe and Jennings in National League action.
  • Latics' goalkeeper records second consecutive clean sheet.
  • Torquay 2-0 winners over Welling United.

TORQUAY UNITED 2 WELLING UNITED 0 - DAN LAVERCOMBE

After keeping a clean sheet in Saturday's 1-0 win away to Boreham Wood, Dan Lavercombe came up with the goods for the second consecutive match as he helped his Torquay United side to a 2-0 victory over survival rivals Welling United on Tuesday evening.

The victory was the first time Torquay have recorded back-to-back wins this season, with Lavercombe's first back-to-back clean sheets in the National League this term.

Three points prove a huge boost to the Gulls' survival chances, moving them off the foot of the table into 23rd place, seven points behind 20th place Halifax, with two games in hand.

GRIMSBY TOWN 3 WOKING 1 - RYAN JENNINGS

It was a brief cameo appearance for Ryan Jennings in Grimsby Town's comfortable 3-1 victory over Woking on Tuesday night, with the winger subbed on in the 84th minute.

The Mariners were already 3-1 up when Jennings was introduced, with the pacey forward booked two minutes from time.

Grimsby strengthened their position in the play-off places with their bounce back victory after defeat to Halifax at the weekend, and they now sit on 62 points in third place, 17 behind leaders Cheltenham Town with two games in hand.

MATLOCK TOWN 1 NANTWICH TOWN 1 - SAM COSGROVE

Sam Cosgrove wasn't involved in the match day squad for Nantwich Town as they claimed a point away at Matlock Town in a 1-1 draw, but the striker did appear for Latics' Development Squad earlier in the day to maintain his playing rhythm, unfortunately for Latics it ended in a 3-1 defeat away to Burton Albion at Mickleover Sports.

The Dabbers' point has them seventh on 52, seven points behind Stourbridge who occupy the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League's last play-off spot.

CHESTER 4 WARRINGTON TOWN 0 - DANNY O'BRIEN

Danny O'Brien wasn't involved in Chester's squad for their Cheshire Senior Cup quarter final thumping of local rivals Warrington Town.

MK DONS 1 HUDDERSFIELD TOWN 1 - EMYR HUWS

Midfielder Emyr Huws remains sidelined at Huddersfield Town, but the Terriers grabbed a hard-earned away point at MK Dons with 10 men, strengthening their mid-table position in the Sky Bet Championship, despite falling behind to a goal from former Latics loanee Alex Revell.

Huddersfield are currently 16th on 39 points, 13 clear of the relegation zone, and 15 behind Derby County in the final play-off place.

READING 1 ROTHERHAM UNITED 0 - ANDREW TAYLOR

Defender Andrew Taylor was not involved for Reading as they grabbed a narrow home victory over Rotherham United, the 1-0 win taking them up to 40 points in the Sky Bet Championship, right in the middle of the relegation zone and play-off places, with 14 points separating them from both areas of the table.
