Sam Morsy’s post-Walsall thoughts.

  • Sam Morsy voted Man of the Match by Latics suppporters.
  • Midfielder instrumental in 2-1 win at Walsall.
  • January signing settling in well at Latics.
Midfielder Sam Morsy only joined the club at the end of January this year, but the former Chesterfield man says he’s already finding out what it takes to be a Wigan Athletic player, and loving every second of it.

The 24-year-old was voted Latics Wall Man of the Match following Saturday’s 2-1 away win at Walsall, recognition he appreciates, but insists it’s all about the team.

“It’s fantastic to be chosen as Man of the Match by the fans.

“The gaffer wants everybody doing their jobs and he’s massive on the cohesion of the team, so if everybody does their job right and to the high standard we set ourselves, then we’ve always got a good chance of winning any game.”

On his place within the team, Morsy continued:

“Things have started really well for me here, we’ve had two big away wins in a row and I’ve started them both just in front of the defence.

“The gaffer is tactically very good, and we do a lot of work to nullify the oppositions’ threats as well our own work in going out to win games.

“We’re on a really good run at the minute and I’m enjoying my role in the team.”

Looking back at the result at the Banks’s Stadium, Morsy stressed the importance of beating the teams around Latics in the table, with the victory lifting the team into second place.

“Walsall was a great win for us, a must win game if you think about it, so to get the three points is a great result for us.

“It’s always important not to drop too many points to your rivals, so it was a big win for us because we are still playing catch up a little bit.

“It keeps the momentum going, of course it’s only three points from a lot left to play for, but it keeps us unbeaten and sends us into Saturday’s game full of confidence.”
