DW Stadium to host two matches on Easter Monday 28 March with both Latics and Wigan Warriors in action.

  • Latics play Rochdale in Sky Bet League One on Monday 28 March.
  • Latics v Rochdale kick-off moved to 1.30pm.
  • Tickets on sale from tomorrow, Wednesday 24 February.

Wigan Athletic’s match against Rochdale in Sky Bet League one scheduled for a 3.00pm kick off on Easter Monday 28 March, has been moved forwards to 1.30pm to accommodate a fixture clash with Wigan Warriors, who will play their Super League match with Hull Kingston Rovers at 8.00pm – the first time the DW Stadium will have staged two matches on the same day in its 17 year history.

The problem arose when Warriors were scheduled to play at home on Easter Monday and Jonathan Jackson, Wigan Athletic Chief Executive, said after discussions between the clubs a solution has been found without the need for Warriors to postpone their game.

“We would like to thank Rochdale Football Club for agreeing to an earlier kick-off,” he said, “otherwise there would not have been enough time to host a match in the evening.

“Stadium Manager Andy Birch has devised a plan to turn the stadium around in the time available but it will take a huge effort from his staff, involving the groundsman and his team, the stadium hospitality staff and cleaners.

“As a football club, the idea of moving kick-offs is familiar in the live television age, so this will not be a problem for Gary Caldwell and the players, but it is a huge logistical undertaking for the stadium to host both games on the same day and we are grateful to Andy and his staff for their professionalism in accommodating these fixtures.”

Tickets for the Sky Bet League One match versus Rochdale will be on sale from tomorrow, Wednesday 24 February.
