WIGAN ATHLETIC TO MOVE TO NEW TRAINING GROUND

19 February 2016

Wigan Athletic first team will train at a new Euxton facility from 2016/17 season.

  • Euxton training ground purchased by the Whelan family.
  • Wigan Athletic will retain Christopher Park as an exclusive academy facility.
  • Latics to start 2016-17 pre-season at the new training ground.
Wigan Athletic’s first team will train at a new facility in Euxton, near Chorley, after its purchase from Bolton Wanderers by the Whelan family.

Latics first team will remain at Christopher Park until May before beginning 2016-17 pre-season training at their new home.

From next season, Wigan Athletic’s current first team training facility at Christopher Park in Standish Lower Ground will become a permanent home to the Wigan Athletic Academy.

Chairman David Sharpe said:

"It's integral to our future success that we have a high quality first team training ground, and an Academy based in one location enabling it to grow and develop the players of the future."

The Euxton Training Ground is situated 15 miles from the DW Stadium and is part of what was once the huge Chorley Royal Ordnance Factory, commissioned by the government in the 1930s as part of the war effort to produce munitions.
