  • Minute’s applause for Steve Gohouri on Thursday.
  • Steve Gohouri will be remembered before Gillingham match
  • "The fans will be able to say their goodbyes to Steve." - David Sharpe.
A minute’s applause will be held prior to the televised Sky Bet League One match versus Gillingham at the DW Stadium, tomorrow evening, Thursday January 7.

The body of Latics’ former Ivory Coast international defender was found by German police at the weekend and the news of the 34 year old’s death has shocked everyone at the club.

Chairman David Sharpe says:

“Steve was part of the Wigan Athletic family and we were all really affected by the news of his death.

“We feel it’s the right thing to do to honour him in this way, he was a player with us so recently and was well loved at the club.

“Hopefully, this gesture will give our supporters the chance to say a proper goodbye to Steve. We thought about a minute’s silence but Steve was such a colourful, happy-go-lucky character that we feel a minute’s applause is more fitting.”
