The agreement to take the 22-year old forward to Whaddon Road has been reached between the clubs this afternoon.
Whitehead, who signed from Macclesfield Town in January, immediately returned to Moss Rose for the second-half of last season and helped the Silkmen to challenge for a play-off place in the National League before linking up with Gary Caldwell and his side this summer.
The former Stockport County and West Ham United youngster featured from the bench in pre-season games with Chester FC and his former club Macclesfield but the opportunity to play in English Football League Two was one his manager was pleased Whitehead could be afforded.
Caldwell said: “We wish Danny all the best, he needs game time and hopefully he will get that now.”
