Daily Mile running track set to keep Woodfield Primary School students fit and active.

Wigan Athletic Owner and Life President Dave Whelan officially opened Woodfield Primary School’s Daily Mile track last week, which was created courtesy of a grant that he provided.

The ‘Daily Mile’ is a national project that Wigan Council’s Inspiring Healthy Lifestyles is encouraging all primary schools across the borough to sign up to.

The Woodfield students, who also join in with Wigan Athletic Community Trust’s School Sports programme, will run or walk the track four times a day to complete their ‘daily mile’, in an effort to keep fit and boost their performance in the classroom.

Mr Whelan said: “It’s really important that we encourage children to adopt healthy habits and take exercise from a very early age. We can only do this if we make it fun and accessible to everyone.

“This scheme does exactly that through the simple act of going for a walk. It gets the children out in the fresh air, gets them moving and sets them up for the rest of the day.

“When I heard about Woodfield’s plan I was happy to get involved. I’m sure it will inspire generations of healthy, happy children.”
