It's been less two months since Wigan Athletic were crowned Sky Bet League One champions and earned their immediate return to the Sky Bet Championship, but Gary Caldwell and his team are already back for pre-season training at Christopher Park ahead of their move to the new training facility in Euxton after the summer trip to Portugal at the start of July.
The first team and Development Squad groups were joined by new signing Alex Gilbey and returning players Andrew Taylor, Emyr Huws, Billy Mckay, Danny Whitehead and Dan Lavercombe who all spent the 2015-16 season out on loan.
Latics' preparations are now underway, on the same day that the 2016-17 Sky Bet Championship fixtures were announced, with Caldwell's side looking ahead to an opening day fixture away at Bristol City on Saturday 6 August, before an away clash with Oldham Athletic in the EFL Cup round one, and the first home fixture at the DW Stadium on Saturday 13 August against Owen Coyle's Blackburn Rovers.
