Wigan Athletic will travel to Bristol City on the opening day of the 2016-17 Sky Bet Championship on August 6 2016, the first trip to Ashton gate since January 2003.

They welcome Blackburn Rovers to the DW Stadium on the following Saturday, August 13 for the first home fixture of the season, coincidentally the first time former manager Owen Coyle will return since his spell in charge.

Birmingham City are the visitors three days later while a trip to Nottingham Forest follows on August 20th.

With other mouth-watering matches against the likes of Aston Villa and Newcastle United, the first local derby in the league against Preston North End since 2005, plus a final day DW Stadium fixture against Leeds United, there is plenty for Latics supporters to get excited about, especially as you can get all 23 home matches at the DW for less than £10 per game with a 2016-17 season card!

Buying or renewing a season card is the best value for money to see your team in the Sky Bet Championship, with adult renewals just £179, new purchases just £199 (until 30 June) and under 16s FREE in the Team Latics Family Stand (with a paying adult, available in person and by phone).

Manager Gary Caldwell reacted to the release of the fixtures by saying that everyone at the club was in positive mood.

“We worked so hard for promotion last season,” he said, “and we will approach the new season full of momentum and confidence as a result. When you see the list of names we will be facing, it does make us all feel excited to be back at this level.

“The players are back for pre-season, and we are going to work hard in pre-season over the coming weeks in time for the big kick off. We will be ready.”
