Just Join In festivals celebrate opportunities in disability sport.

Over 250 young people with disabilities from around Wigan took part in Wigan Athletic Community Trust’s Just Join In Festivals at Wigan Youth Zone last month.

Split across three days, the festivals provided opportunities for 4-18 year olds with disabilities to join in with different sports and to raise awareness of the disability sports that are available in Wigan.

The festivals provided the youngsters who took part with access to sports that they may not otherwise have oppportunities to join in with, as well as giving teachers ideas for sports and games to take back to their schools.

Joe Pym, Disability Sports Co-ordinator, said: “The festivals are a great way for us to raise awareness of the sports that we provide for young people with disabilities. They’re a fun and busy day that give the youngsters the chance to join in with a wide variety of sports and games.”

The Just Join In Festivals are organised in partnership with Wigan Youth Zone, Inspiring Healthy Lifestyles and Wigan School Games organisers.

A further festival is due to take place later this summer.
