Peter Atherton's Development Squad head to Shrewsbury Town on Tuesday afternoon to take on the Final Third Development League West leaders at Shrewsbury Sports Village, aiming to close the gap on the Shropshire side to just two points.
Latics currently have a game in hand over their hosts, but sit in fifth position and five points behind the front-running team following a 3-1 defeat away to Burton Albion in their last outing.
A scheduled match against Morecambe last Tuesday was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch at Robin Park Arena, meaning the match against the Brewers was Latics most recent game. The defeat continued a mixed run of form for Atherton's side, having won twice and lost twice in their last four matches.
Shrewsbury on the other hand haven't lost since their 4-0 defeat to Latics back in October.
