With the first goal of his loan spell, Development Squad striker Sam Cosgrove netted Nantwich Town's milestone 100th goal of the season in all competitions on Tuesday night as they beat Bamber Bridge 5-1 in the Integro Doodson League Cup at the Weaver Stadium.
Cosgrove, who featured for the full 90 minutes, grabbed his goal on the half hour mark to open the tie up, with the Dabbers' comprehensive victory sending them through to the quarter finals for a home fixture against Colwyn Bay.
MACCLESFIELD TOWN 1 TORQUAY UNITED 2 - DANNY WHITEHEAD / DAN LAVERCOMBE
Save by Lavercombe to deny Whitehead as Butler plays the ball off a home player for a goal-kick... #tufc— Torquay United FC (@TUFC1899) March 1, 2016
In the battle of the loanees at the Moss Rose, Dan Lavercombe's Torquay United came out on top over Danny Whitehead Macclesfield Town for the third time this season, thanks to a 2-1 victory in the National League.
The Gulls beat the Silkmen on the opening day of the season, and again in an FA Trophy replay, before Tuesday night's narrow victory to claim their third consecutive league victory, strengthening what seemed an impossible task in their battle to survive relegation.
Nathan Blissett's double either side of Kristian Dennis' goal for the hosts lifted Torquay into 22nd place in the table on 29 points, just five behind Altrincham in the safety spot of 20th, with the Gulls yet to play their game in hand.
Whitehead (who played 90 minutes) and Macclesfield dropped to 12th position on 48 points, nine behind Tranmere Rovers in the final play-off place.
DUNDEE UNITED 0 ABERDEEN 1 - BILLY MCKAY
Switching focus to the Scottish Premiership but sticking with the theme of survival, Dundee United were dealt a blow in their battle to avoid the drop after a narrow 1-0 home defeat to title chasing Aberdeen at Tannadice.
Billy Mckay featured for 85 minutes on the night, as United remain 12th in the table, eight points behind Kilmarnock, but still with a game in hand.
